Lesson 4 : JUXTAPOSITION 1
Lecture : Miss Tasya
2/3/2009Review in classI learned about the definition of juxtaposition and juxtaposition technique in literature and film.
Miss tasya played some example form Lost season 1.
The Juxtapositon was about character opposing emotions.
For example : Brokeness/Hope - Directly after the moment described above, a light comes on in the Hatch, reinvigorating Locke's hopes and faith in the Island (and his destiny).
My Understanding…*putting something next to something else.
*putting two words/ideas which are contradictory, contrasting that gives a shocking result when placed side by side. This are done so that the differences between them are strongly emphasized.
EXAMPLE:-This two signs on a public beach reveals the complex task that society faces in protecting both land and water quality.
Juxtaposition in photography*it’s a brilliant way to produce great photos.* images you produce can be very rewarding.
This picture looks delightful even a small cute rabbit resting peaceful in the rough/hard hand.
Juxtaposition in poetry*it's a good way of making a point, or having an effect on the reader, even as not using ordinary language.
* Things such as imagery and descriptive language are used to juxtapose.
EXAMPLE:-Haiku
*juxtaposition is used to write this unrhymed Japanese poem.
rain fills the deflated basketball-- our last good-bye
Effect on the reader (lovers)
rain filling something that was once full, round, and used for entertainment, is a very lonely image. the basketball is a sad, downhearted of what it used to be,. Just as two lovers who are saying good-bye for the last time, imply that there was a time when things were romantic and magical. Now magic is gone.
Task: juxtaposition in moviesSuperman returns (2006)
I put the juxtapositions of youth and age, individual and society, freedom and responsibility, city and country, nature and culture. We can see the character narrative moments in two different city. The character development, having super power but at the same time he has to be act like a normal human in the society.
For example;
This character clark kent is living in the 2 world, one is past and present.
He have 2 home,Earth and a planet called krypton.he also have his biology parents from krypton planet and adopted by a couple (jonathan and Martha kent).
